This publication invites readers to peruse the ways in which these eighteen different places illustrated by this 19th century landscape painter and coupled with the comments by one of the most attentive and informed “sons of Sintra”, Professor João Cachado and with the photographs by José Antunes depicting those same scenes from a contemporary perspective. The reader thus comes to verify how many of these sites have changed only very little while others have undergone a metamorphosis into completely different ambiences today displaying the colours and signs of the passage of time. This publication also presents a map detailing just where the pictures were taken and along with the respective geographic coordinates and thus seeking to encourage interest in the different footpaths running through the Sintra hills.
